Fun with Family

Let it be known that fitting four people, no matter how big or small, into this shot is no small feat.

Fortunately, our week at my mom's house was much more comfortable. After Nick's wedding Monday Cory rode home with Becca and Scot while I stayed in Utah with the kids. It was so nice having a car there, and my mom enjoyed being the passenger for a change.

My grandma Carol invited us and Terra's family over for some fun in her basement Tuesday. While the boys played pool and air hockey, Brooke and Avery became quick friends. The last time they were together was when Brooke was 3 1/2 weeks and Avery was 3 1/2 months. It was time to get reacquainted, and it didn't take them long.

On Thursday Grandma treated us to some fun at Chuck E. Cheese where Cole and Brady spent more time at the air hockey table.

Brady had so much fun at Chuck E. Cheese (we usually don't buy many tokens or stay nearly as long) he said it was "the best day ever!" He had no idea how much fun the water slides would be the next day. Leesa kindly watched the babies so it was just Terra and her two boys, my mom, Brady and I who went to Seven Peaks Friday. It took me back to our summer days at the pool last year, just Brady and me. Brady's first time down the water slide was not that impressive. I had him on my lap and had to push us halfway down the slide. But after that we used tubes and flew down, even backward at times. Water slides are great, but getting to experience your 3-year-old's first water slides is priceless.

That night I requested we try Zupas for dinner and I was not disappointed. No pictures, but thanks for the tip Diane.

Saturday was July 24th, a day where Utahns celebrate the pioneers arriving in the Salt Lake Valley. We celebrated another best day ever at Trafalga.

Brooke and Avery just chilled while we waited.

Terra and Brady got soaked.

Cory has taken Brady to the nearby driving range a few times this summer, so my boy was really looking forward to miniature golf. My mom and I determined he's better at driving as he whacked his ball into the water on the first swing. (We then shared ours with him and that's the ONLY reason he's using the purple ball below.)

Brooke was nice enough to fall asleep while we shot our 18 holes.

That evening we enjoyed a BBQ at my grandparents' house in Draper. My grandparents host this every year and this was my first chance to go. Most of my 30 cousins on my mom's side live in Utah now, so I got to see a lot of my family that I hadn't seen. It was great to catch up with everyone.

Nick hadn't been to an extended family gathering in more than 10 years, but now that he's married his social life is out the window. He did his best to make the party memorable as his (5-day-old) wedding ring slipped off his finger into the grass. Sharon knows this is probably the first of many rings for him (he's been through two wallets since they met), but we all searched the backyard. Cole asked what everyone was doing and Leesa told him we were looking for Nick's wedding ring. (Remember that he was the ring bearer at the wedding.) He gave her a disgusted look and said, "After I took such good care of it." My grandma was prepared to search through the trash (which had the leftover homemade ice cream) when Leesa announced that she'd found the ring and was the winner of the $20 reward.

Here is a shot of the four generations of women on my mom's side.

Thanks Mom for letting us stay and for showing us such a great time. Three "best day ever!"s in a row is quite impressive.

That looks like a lot of fun. I love catching up with family when living far away! Trafalga is classic!
