The Last 3 Months: March

March started off pretty rocky for Brooke.  She had a bad cough, and then she managed to get the herpes from Colin.  It started off with a couple small sores on her bottom lip, but then it got worse.
Her bottom lip was covered in blisters and she kept picking at it.  The virus spread to her tongue and face.  First she was drinking through a straw and popping small bits of food in her mouth.  Then she got a couple sores on her tongue and her lips kept cracking and bleeding.  At that point even a straw hurt.  I was squirting about 4 ounces of water into her mouth via syringe after every meal.  She couldn't pronounce many words correctly, she couldn't smile for a while without it hurting, and she was in a lot of pain.  Between the cough and the herpes, she was taking 6 medicines at one point.  The doctor prescribed an oral medicine which cleared it up in about 5 days.  Here she is at the worst of it, smiling in spite of her pain.
Just a couple weeks later and her smile was back.  Her chin was still a little scarred, but that's going away now.  Brooke began her 100 reading lessons in late February.  She caught on quickly to the "say it fast" idea (putting sounds together to form words).  Even when she couldn't pronounce her m's, p's and b's she still forged through without complaint.  She has exceeded our expectations with reading, and we couldn't be more excited about it!
Brady finished another season of basketball with the Junior Nuggets.  His defensive skills are incredible!  He can really stick to his guy as he is very quick on his feet.  He made the last shot in the last game of the season.
This little cutie turned 18 months (more on that in the next post).  He's busy, but such a little sweetheart.
Becca and I took our kids to the WOW museum in Lafayette during spring break.  These two spent a good portion of the time painting.  Fortunately they forgot and left all their creations there.
He's still the goofy kid he was 3 years ago, just a taller, mouthier version.
I had to document this rare moment of Colin and Asher playing together.
These big cats had a hard time standing still for a picture, but they looked cute together.
Here is a rare moment: all three kids working together to empty the silverware basket.  It's Brooke's job, and Colin often helps by dropping silverware randomly into the drawer.  The kids have to take advantage when Colin's actually being helpful.
Speaking of helpful, Brooke is more than willing to help in the kitchen with dinner.  It's my challenge to come up with things that she can do that are actually helpful.  I remember well cutting olives as a kid.

Looking back, I wouldn't be surprised if Mom put olives in a lot more recipes than called for them, just to put us to work.
